After a month of dedicated preparation, it was finally time to launch the very first GAME ON HK football volunteering session! Heading in, our team was eager to pass on our football knowledge and help the children develop their skills. While we were initially unsure of what skill level to expect, we quickly realized that despite being only 7 to 10 years old, most of the players were remarkably capable.

Fig. 1: Jack Puhar as Football Organizer and Coach
Led by head coaches Owen Ng, Jack Puhar, Aaron Puhar, and Nathan Koh—alongside a dedicated team of assistant coaches and supportive parents—we were able to provide close, individual attention to every member of our 11-player cohort. This allowed us to tailor our coaching and help everyone hone their skills, especially those with little to no prior experience.
We kicked things off with an energetic dynamic warm-up led by Aaron, before moving into classic two-touch passing drills. We focused on key fundamentals: opening up body body angles when receiving the ball, keeping eyes up, and actively using the non-dominant foot to build balanced technique early on. Given the warm weather, we scheduled regular water breaks to keep everyone hydrated, focused, and high-energy throughout. Later in the session, we progressed to inside-the-box shooting and 1v1 drills—the latter proving to be a fan favorite for both coaches and players!
While it was deeply rewarding to see the kids adapt so quickly during drills, nothing beat the excitement of watching them apply those skills in a fast-paced "first goal wins" 2v2 tournament. The intensity was electric, and it was incredible to see how many shots found the top corner!
To conclude, we want to extend a huge thank you to all the parents, volunteers, and young players who made this inaugural session so memorable. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Swire Coca-Cola HK and CEO Karen So for providing us with high-quality equipment, as well as supporting our mission to inspire and empower underprivileged youth through sports.
